The capital of Međimurje
Čakovec
Zrinski Old Town
Zrinski Old Town is a landmark of Čakovec and Međimurje County, a symbol of their history.
Situated in the town centre, it connects the busy streets with the historical tale told in the midst of a lovely park, creating a story in which the two sides wonderfully intertwine. It is believed that the Old Town was built in the second half of the 13th century. The ruler at the time was Dimitrije Čak, who Čakovec was named after.
The Old Town was remodeled and additions constructed by different rulers, turning it into a spacious castle with defensive structures.
Tell me more
The castle was owned by five generations of the Zrinski noble family, who left a significant mark in the town and the county. Today it is home to the Museum Međimurje Čakovec and the Treasury of Međimurje, Farewell monument, Stari grad restaurant and Bedem coffee bar. Thus, it provides an enjoyable experience of the cultural-historical heritage on the spot.
